Are you enjoying dressing for spring? I’ve got a fresh batch of spring and summer styles for women over 50 that I’ve tried on for you. These fashions feature a lot of color, everyday wearability, lightweight fabrics and fun details. I even have new shoes and jewelry to share, too.

While I did put a little thought into styling these new spring and summer styles, the main goal of the day was trying them on my body so I could snap a few photos and share them with you today. So I suggest you focus more on the clothes and accessories, as well as the fit information I supply, rather than my styling. For reference, I’m 5’8″ and weigh roughly 160 pounds. I usually wear a misses size 10 or medium in tops, bottoms and dresses. I have even proportions and an hourglass shape. Let’s check out the new spring and summer styles I tried on for you!
Eileen Fisher Separates
I got in a few new things from Eileen Fisher that I’ll wear more in summer. These are lightweight, easy breezy styles that I lean into for everyday wear. I almost always (99% of the time) size down to a small in Eileen Fisher, and that’s what I’m wearing in these selections. Right now through April 19, at Eileen Fisher use code BREEZY25 for $25 off your order.
I know these grenadine linen pants are bright, but they’re just like the lime green ones I wore almost weekly last summer and received so many compliments on. I know they will get a lot of wear.

The organic Pima cotton jersey V-neck tee is silky soft and the slightly cropped length provides good proportions for the ankle length organic linen wide leg pants. I love the combination of the breeze turquoise with the grenadine red for a casual, everyday look. Remember, Eileen Fisher carries a wide range of sizes (xxs to 3x) and petites in their pants and dresses.

But I also plan to wear these grenadine linen pants with the bright aster purple V-neck slub cotton tee below for another fun pairing. And yesterday I used my $25 off coupon code to order the organic linen cotton V-neck top (not shown) in the same beautiful grenadine. That will give me a look for a casual brunch or pub dinner out. I styled the outfit above with the Noonday Jinja bracelet stack (use code KAY10 for 10% off) and very comfortable sandals from Evereve. I love the color since it’s a flesh tone match for me. And the style is on trend and sporty.
J.McLaughlin Linen Shorts
Next I’m wearing the bright aster purple V-neck slub cotton tee mentioned above with nautical navy linen blend shorts from J.McLaughlin.

These shorts fit true to size for a slightly snug fit in the waist but a lot of room in the hips. On the website they look like a more narrow silhouette. But the sales associate said they all look fuller on women in real life. I think they’re a great short for when you want a slightly dressier look, but you can certainly style them down (as I did here), too.

In many of the photos I’m wearing the Dakota necklace and mini knocker earrings from Electric Picks. These are such nice styles for everyday wear. They won’t tarnish and the earrings are lightweight but impactful.
Matching Set from Varley
A matching set is always a good idea, especially if you want maximum impact with minimum effort. These Varley pieces are super soft and luxe, perfect for summer car travel or lounging on vacation.

I have learned that I wear my usual size medium in Varley tops, but need a size large (per the size guide) in the bottoms. The half zip top and the shorts, both in the color summer fig, fit accordingly.

Madewell Top & J.Jill Linen Pants
I think I’ve mentioned this feminine Blaire top from Madewell, but I don’t remember showing it here. So I put it on with my new J.Jill linen pants. The top is such a smart wardrobe addition because it adds interest to a simple pairing. It runs true to size; I’m wearing a medium for a great fit. It also comes in other colors.

The sand dune/white linen pants from J.Jill will see a lot of wear in my spring and summer wardrobe. I love the straight but full leg silhouette, the tailored top and the ankle length. They fit true to size; I’m wearing a medium, whereas I often size down at J.Jill in tops and dresses.

I wore the outfit above with my new ally Mary Jane flats, but they are not available yet. However, I’m taking the similar Forever flats with me to London. They’re such great flats and I wear them frequently, cutting down on cost per wear tremendously. Smart investment. You can use code KAYFLATS at Ally for 10% off your first pair of flats.
Vince Pairing
The Vince pocket crop cotton polo in optic white below is pricey. But it’s super soft and I love the drape and length. It also comes in a lovely soft chamomile yellow.

I’m wearing the polo with their Grace mid-rise linen blend pull-on pants. These fit true to size and also come in coastal navy. I think they’re a smart linen blend pant that looks a little more elevated and modern. I’m wearing the duo with my new M.Gemi Una loafers that I picked up when they were 25% off recently. They fit true to size for a snug fit. I think they’ll stretch with wear, as most good leather does. So I was confident keeping them.

J.Jill Dresses
Next up I have the J.Jill dress I had hoped to take to London. However, it looks like it will be too cool for this Wearever cap sleeve A-line dress. I’m keeping it though because I have a similar black and white sleeveless dress in my closet from J.Jill that I purchased three years ago and wear frequently each summer. I sized down to a small for a nice fit.
Today at J.Jill get 25% off full-price styles.

I apologize for the blurry picture on the right. Unfortunately it’s the only one I got with the beautiful silk diamond shaped scarf. And even more unfortunate, it looks like that scarf is sold out in the navy. And they just have a couple left in the red. Great scarf. Plan to wear it on my trip to England for sure.

I did find a similar blue scarf that is equally lovely. I wore the dress above with sneakers because this is how I had envisioned wearing it in London. And I’ll definitely be wearing it that way occasionally during the summer. But it would look lovely with sandals, of course.

Above I’m wearing another J.Jill dress. This linen maxi shrtdress in dragon fruit is selling out fast, but they do still have a few sizes. It’s also available in a pretty navy. As usual at J.Jill, I sized down to a small for a nice fit.

I accessorized with cognac sandals and my J.McLaghlin raffia and leather bag. For a pretty touch, I added a cotton bandana to the bag. It’s from Noonday and comes in another color combination, too. Of course you could also wear it around your neck or in your hair.
Me+Em Dresses
Next up I have three dresses from Me+Em. These are pricier dresses, but the quality and details are pretty amazing. I sized down to a size 8 in the zip neck shirt dress below because they didn’t have a 10 when I ordered. I had been watching this dress like a hawk for a month while they had it on the website as “coming soon.” So I wasn’t going to let it get past me. It turns out that the 8 fits beautifully. The 10 would have given me a slightly blousier fit in the top, but I’m quite happy with this one.

I paired it with sneakers because that’s how I plan to potentially wear it in London. But I’ll definitely wear it with pretty sandals to church…maybe this Sunday!

The construction on all of these dresses is truly masterful. They feel as lovely on the body as they look. Next I’m showing one of their cheesecloth dresses in a pretty fit and flare silhouette. The blue and white floral print is modern and timeless. I’m wearing my usual size 10 here for a generous fit.

I’m wearing the dress with strappy sandals in a sheer nude strap from Dolce Vita. These are such a smart addition to your spring and summer wardrobe. They come in additional colors, so if you can find one close to your skin tone they’re especially lengthening and flattering. Quite comfortable, too.

Next I’m wearing the Me+Em blue cheesecloth fit & flare maxi dress with a twist front. This dress fits true to size for a generous fit.

The dress is selling out fast in this pretty blue, but it comes in an equally stunning poppy red and a beautiful brown and white print similar to the print in my other dress. The twist front detail is flattering and adds subtle interest. There is no closure at the crisscross, so I may add one. But I haven’t had a problem with it so far. And I think it would work even better for a bustier woman. This dress and the print one above zip in the back underneath the collar for easy access.

L’Agence Dress
The Kylie shirtdress from L’Agence is a beautiful option for a cruise, summer vacation or even a wedding. It fits nicely true to size.

I especially love the soft pleats at the hips. They don’t poke out, but lay flat to the body, creating a slim hip area and a fuller skirt below. The belt is modern and fun, but could be swapped out for something a little more refined if the occasion calls for it.

Dress from M.M.LaFleur
I’ve actually had this dress from M.M.LaFleur since the beginning of the year, but kept forgetting to share it.

The Von ruched dress in light jersey fabric is luxe and beautiful for travel. It will pack nicely, but it’s so exquisite. I could envision wearing it multiple times on a cruise, for instance. I’ve worn the ruched dress with beautiful cluster drop earrings and an exquisite inner circle necklace, both very reasonably priced for a wedding or other special occasion.

I’ve got more spring and summer fashions to try on for you today, so I’ll be adding those tomorrow afternoon. I hope this was helpful if you’re adding a few special items to your closet for the season. I have a shopping widget below with everything shown. Just click through the image to shop. Are you a good neighbor? I try to be, but I’ll confess, I don’t take the time I should to check in on neighbors and get to know them well. We live in a friendly neighborhood where everyone waves as you walk down the street or pass in your car. People are kind and respectful of each other’s property. We’ve met lovely people here, and many seem to be in the same season of life we are in. But I could do better at visiting with people as I walk by, inviting them over for dinner or inquiring about their needs.
I’d love to hear in the comments about how you go about being a good neighbor where you live. Maybe we could give each other good ideas for starting and building relationships with those whom we share a street or property line.
Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law. ~ Romans 13:8
G’morn Kay – would that alt royal scarf pull together periwinkle and navy? Or is it truly royal? Thanks
I’ve not seen the scarf in person (the Ralph Lauren one I linked to as an alternative, right?) so I’m not sure.
Oh my goodness, that J Jill orchid colored dress (dragon fruit) looks fantastic on you! All those light to medium purples (like the aster tee) really are just a great color for you. Speaking of, I noticed this am while surfing online that there is a lot of lavender purple (they call it lavender dawn) at Talbots right now, including some sweaters, button downs, and a gorgeous poplin midi dress. Just a heads up for anyone here who loves that color. I love seeing your OOTD and try on session posts, as they give me ideas for new outfit combinations that I may not have thought on my own and some new products to check out. 🙂
I’m going to be looking forward to seeing your photos of your time in London and the Cotswolds. I hope you get to stay at the same winery Shelly’s group stayed in in 2024. Maybe the Woodchester.? Oh my gosh, it was so lovely, and the views from the house were out of a fairytale. Take lots of pictures for us! And I hope you will be able to see the gorgeous flowers in the windows of the stores for the flower market in May
You look stunning in all of the dresses. The blue dress is my favorite and unfortunately it is sold out in my size in blue and red. I can’t wait to see what you pack for your trip. Enjoy!
Hi Kay
I love the dresses you have shown, some really nice and smart.
A word of advice, take the dresses & those navy shorts to the UK with cardigans or jacket. We can, and often do, experience spring, summer and autumn all in one day. I type this sitting outside in 70F in a sheltered spot in the east of the England. Keep up the good work.🙂
Kay…. I often think this same thing. We just don’t put enough effort into our neighbors. We live on a dead end road with only our house and 4 down the road from us. We visit outside with the ones next to us but don’t see the others except for when we meet on the road. Every house is a different age group. Everyone seems to stick to themselves. However up the hill from us is where I use to live and I know more of them but even that neighborhood is changing. I think people got in a bad habit during Covid and just aren’t as social with neighbors. I too could do better and would like to read comments. Blessing to you for your talk and great post with ideas.
